Sylvio has over 25 years of international experience in the Agribusiness sector and is passionate about technology innovation and business growth opportunities across the Food and Ag supply chain. He brings extensive experience working in Venture Capital/Private Equity, international business development and advisory. Throughout his career Sylvio has demonstrated the ability to build strong relationships while working with cross-cultural teams along with a passion for achieving results.
“Sylvio is a great addition to our agriculture and food team that has become recognized throughout the industry as a leading boutique group,” stated W.B. (Bud) Kirchner, Founder and CEO of Kirchner Group. “As the importance of this sector continues to be highlighted, especially around Food Security given the pandemic, along with the significant innovation that it is experiencing Sylvio will be a tremendous asset to our clients and partners.”
Sylvio is originally from Brazil and grew up on a farm as part of a third generation Italian family that moved to Brazil to farm citrus, grains and sugar cane. He graduated in Agronomic Engineering and started his career working for a venture capital firm investing in Ag/Food companies across Latin America.
Sylvio moved to the US in 2002, and after completing his MBA at Dartmouth College, he joined FMC Corporation in Philadelphia as part of their Agricultural Products Corporate Development team working on M&A opportunities in the agrochemical sector. In 2005 he joined Cargill in Minneapolis and was one of the three founding members of a venture start-up focusing on investing in waste to energy renewable energy generation and carbon emissions reduction across the globe. He continued in various roles at Cargill until 2013 when he joined Syngenta as Head of Strategy and Business Development for North America.
In 2017 he was invited to join the Executive Team of Wheatsheaf, a large UK based privately owned investment company (part of The Grosvenor Estate), that invests across the Food/Ag value chain and manages a portfolio of 25 companies across Europe, North and Latin America and Australia. While at Wheatsheaf, Sylvio had direct ownership of the North America operations and portfolio of investments and worked directly with portfolio companies to ensure implementation of strategy according to Board decisions.
“I am excited to join Kirchner Group and have the opportunity to work together with a high caliber team of experts to deliver high value results to the companies we work with.” added Sylvio. “The food and agriculture sector is going through a tremendous transformation with great innovations addressing challenges the sector has faced for decades. At the same time there are still many areas that can be improved to allow farmers to produce more using less resources and provide a more sustainable and transparent supply chain from farm to consumer. Kirchner Group has a unique approach to working with clients and I look forward to being part of its successful team”
