Dr. Mirta M. Martin has over 30 years of experience in banking, advisory, consulting and academia. Dr. Martin’s career involves work in both the public and private sectors as well as work around public-private partnerships.

As a senior banking executive, Dr. Martin was recognized as a highly effective and innovative practitioner, positioning companies for growth and profitability. Her higher education experience is equally diverse and successful. She has served in various faculty, administrative and executive positions in academia, establishing herself as strong advocate and a transformative leader for education.

Most recently, Dr. Martin served as president of Fort Hays State University in Kansas. Under her leadership, national rankings of the university’s academic programs increased, the University became the third largest in the state, the first doctoral degree was approved and launched, and net revenues from the on-line college increased substantially. Dr. Martin oversaw the creation of an Honors College, a new College of Science, Technology, and Mathematics, and $88 million in new construction projects including an innovative Entrepreneurship Hall. During her tenure, the University undertook the largest capital campaign in its history, and the financial condition of the University was upgraded to Moody’s rating of A1 Stable.

Dr. Martin is currently a Presidential Adviser to Kansas Board of Regents and Fort Hays State University. In addition, she serves as the Senior Education Adviser to former Mexican President Vicente Fox and a Senior Scholar for the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU). Martin also serves as a Deputy Director to the Association of International Universities (AIU) representing the Americas. Founded in 1950, AIU is the UNESCO-based worldwide association of higher education institutions that brings together some 120 countries for reflection and action on common concerns.

She is active in many educational, civic and charitable organizations. For her leadership, Dr. Martin has received numerous awards, including: The Humanitarian Award for Academic Excellence; The Presidential Volunteer Service Award from the President of the United States; The Hispanic College Fund Legacy Award; Finalist for the Innovation in Education Educator of the Year Award; and Sigma Phi Epsilon’s University Partner of the Year.

Mirta holds a baccalaureate in psychology and political science from Duke University; a master of business administration from the University of Richmond; and a doctorate with an emphasis in strategic management and leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University. She is fluent in three foreign languages and has working knowledge of an additional three.
